Aluminium smelter foundations, Reyðarfjörður

All earthworks and various follow-on packages for the Alcoa smelter site.

Suðurverk carried out all earthworks and multiple additional packages for the Alcoa aluminium smelter site in Reyðarfjörður. The main contractor for the smelter was Canadian contractor Bechtel. Work ran from 2004 to 2007. Main quantities: 1,600,000 m³ overburden removal and 2,600,000 m³ blasted rock. Bechtel subsequently awarded Suðurverk multiple further sub-contracts, taking the final value to about USD 62 million — more than double the original contract.
