Breakwaters in Grindavík

Two rock breakwaters protecting the entrance to Grindavík harbour.

Suðurverk built two breakwater embankments to protect Grindavík harbour. Work ran from March 2002 to September 2003. About 180,000 m³ of rock went into the breakwaters, with the largest stones up to 30 tonnes. Contract value approx. USD 1.5 million. The breakwaters transformed conditions at the harbour entrance and greatly improved safety.
