Desjará and Sauðárdalur dams

Two dams for the Kárahnjúkar hydro-power project.

Construction of two dams at Kárahnjúkar — Desjará dam and Sauðárdalur dam — for the National Power Company (Landsvirkjun). Work ran from April 2004 to August 2007. Quantities: 610,000 m³ excavation and 4,100,000 m³ of landfill, plus grouting works. Contract value approx. USD 30 million. Suðurverk ran a work camp at Kárahnjúkar with about 100 workers on average.
